Leeds is a lively city, rich in culture and heritage with lots to explore. More than 750,000 people live within our city boundaries and over 100,000 people come to work in the city centre every day. Many thousands more tourists and visitors come to shop, eat out or enjoy the range of attractions Leeds has on offer.

Leeds is recognised as one of UK’s most successful cities. It has transformed itself over the last 20 years from a mainly industrial city into a broad based commercial centre, the most important financial, legal and business service centre outside of London.

Leeds City Council holds statutory powers and is accountable to Central Government for the effective and efficient administration of the City. The local authority employs 17,972 fte employees and covers an area of 552 km

Leeds City Council delivers nearly 500 specialist services to our customers. These include refuse collection, roads and highways, advice and benefits services, business services which work with partner organisations, education, training, social care and events. Climate change is becoming increasing important to the city and is now a key part of both the Leeds Strategic Plan and Council Business Plan. We have been working in partnership with organisations across the city to develop a city-wide Climate Change Strategy, due to be published this autumn. A draft is available on the Leeds Initiative website.

Leeds City Council have contributed one film to the 24/7 Filmmaking Challenge:
